Ruben Antonyan’s Creative “Penetration”

Mainly in the last year of study in the cultural universities you can notice many young students, who will surely register success in the future. During the conversation with '' Aravot'' daily newspaper Ruben Asatryan an Honored Worker of Art of the Republic of Armenia and the Dean of Faculty of Vocal Theory, presented graduate composers' diploma works which were prepared for examination last year in Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory. He particularly highlighted professor Aram Satian's graduate Ruben Antonyan's symphonic composition, entitled ''Penetration''. Ruben Asatryan also added, that this artist ''penetrates'' into the sphere of composing art and no one hardly can confuse his manuscript with the one of another composer of his generation. At the final examination, the composition that was mentioned above, was performed by the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia, conducted by Ruben Asatryan. The conductor also said, that it seemed this composition represents different emotional states: it is calm or rebellious with inner outburst.

In 2014 Ruben Antonyan participated in the first Chamber Music Festival of Young Armenian Composers organized by Composers' Union. Specialists stated that he performed together with an interesting and amazing piano trio. And then, instead of ''penetrating'' into art of composition, he ''vanished''. Recently, in our interview Aram Satian said, that his alumnus will participate in Young Composers’ International Festival that will traditionally be held in Italy, Cagliari in autumn.

“Aravot” daily newspaper met with Ruben Antonyan. The latter told, that he studies at High School of Music and Theater in Hamburg. To the answer of our question “What made him come to Hamburg” our interlocutor noted the high level of education of Yerevan State Conservatory and then answered: “Due to circumstances I was often in Germany, especially in Hamburg, during my study in Yerevan State Conservatory. There I met professor Manfred Shtanke, who was student of the 20th century’s greatest composer György Ligeti.

I often showed my works to my professor. There educational system makes musicians deal and get interested and familiar with other branches of art such as choreography, fine arts, cinematography, literature and etc. If a student of composition department studies for example 19th century composer’s art, he/she must also get acquainted exclusively with all branches of culture and art of this very composer’s worked period. We should study which branch this composer mainly related with. The young composer also said, “When you study in composition department in the Western countries you should get familiar and explore sub branches of composer art as well as electronic music, cine composition, media composition, pop composition and etc.” Ruben Antonyan mentioned, that he doesn’t exclude to do his job career in the sphere of cine composition. To our joke-question as though not studying abroad Tigran Mansuryan and Yuri Harutyunyan created beautiful cine compositions, Ruben Antonyan answered,'' Shostakovich or Khachaturian also created highly appreciated cine composition''.

Nowadays film directors demand from composers to present ‘'digital’' music, that is to say not handwritten version but the one that is typed on computer. If a film director is pleased with ‘'digital'' version then it is OK, if not, he decides to have handwritten version and then record it.

Ruben Antonyan shortly added that taking participation in traditional festival in Italy, Cagliari, in autumn, he introduced his chamber composition entitled ''Motion''. The jury members under the direction of famous composer Franco Oppo chose 4 applications from 200. His composition was among 4. “My composition will be performed by Italian ensamble Spaziomusica in the scopes of Music in Touch in autumn and accordingly a CD will be released. At the beginning of September, together with my piano trio I will participate in the Chamber Music Festival of Young Armenian Composers organized by Composers' Union for the second time in Yerevan’’,- said the artist.
